Have you tried every trick in the book to get passed a relationship and considering using hypnosis to forget about someone? Although Sigmund Freud wasn’t the father of hypnosis, his work with the interpretation of dreams as well as free association made the practice quite popular during the beginning of the century. To understand how hypnosis works, it’s important to understand a little bit about how psychodynamic therapists believe the mind works. Our memories and thought process can be categorized into three distinct areas.
Components of Hypnosis
The conscious mind is what you are experiencing right this very moment. You are able to talk about experiences and basic memories from your past which come easily to your mind.
The preconscious mind stores memories and thoughts which can be readily brought to light if you think about it for a moment. For example, what did you eat for dinner last night or what did you do last Christmas?
The unconscious mind is the largest and most powerful part of your brain. Hypnotherapists believe that traumatic events, experiences and memories which are too painful to be recalled are repressed through the unconscious mind.
If you have been feeling depressed over a breakup with let’s say an ex-boyfriend, during a session of hypnosis to forget about someone, other underlying problems from your own childhood will often surface. In other words problems which occurred during childhood or the developmental years often come to the forefront. These issues often include physical or emotional abuse, abandonment and family relations.
During a hypnosis session, the therapist may not induce a hypnotic state during the first visit. Many times, the professional will want you to talk about your specific problem and come up with concrete goals which can be realistically achieved during therapy. A great deal of using hypnosis to forget about a past relationship will depend on your ability to address irrational thoughts. Known as cognitive therapy, the hypnotist will want to know your belief system, and try to challenge unhealthy beliefs prior to the hypnotic process. This approach will address any relationship patterns from the past. Basically, have all of your relationships begun and ended in the same manner? This will go a long way in preventing future, impulsive relationships which may repeating themselves in the future.
Hypnosis to forget about someone is often a temporary fix for problems which are long term, unresolved issues which are stored deep in the subconscious. A good hypnotherapist will help you get in touch with these memories, and treat your issues in their totality, while at the same time help you learn healthy ways to get past your broken relationship.
